              | Grey's Anatomy star and photographer Brad Everett Young was one of our own. Love him or hate him, he was the founder of “Jem’s Space” on myspace.com. He shared some great photography of Jem dolls, fashions, and prototypes. The information was not always correct, because his main source didn’t really have a connection to the Jem line. He is a devastating loss to the Jem community. |

was working on. Update: And the reason Jetta was not on the box is because she was not available in all locations. 2017 Update: there is no way the two dolls were switched, Graphix was designed along with the 1988 Pizzazz doll, same designer. So she wasn't designed until early 1987 or at the earliest very late in 1986 -- after Jetta would have been in production. | What's Up with Jetta??//Jetta vs. Graphix!!

thanks minceatron | The description from the 1987 Hasbro Toy catalog
does not match with a saxophone player. "Clash
jams JEM’s® concert with her distortion modulator
while Jetta™ loves to zap the color out of JEM’s
music videos!" It seems as if Hasbro either decided
on Jetta, or decided to being out another Misfit doll
at the very last minute. Her catalog description does
make scene if you think about the fact that she does
not have any color to her make-up, hair, fashion,
stand, and cassette tape. But, it also seem to imply
that she was an artist, or in video production ...
                            not a saxophone player.
I do have to say on Jetta's behalf ... Jetta and Raya
where revealed to the show's head write at the same
time. That is the only thing that suggests that Hasbro
was developing Jetta long with the rest of the new
items for 1987. But the original instrument for Jetta
was going to be another guitar -- written in the script
for Talent Search. The guitar was later changed to
a saxophone before the cartoon was animated.

                      | Update:
While I have not discovered any information on when either
Graphix or Jetta were created, alternative versions or
anything else that would suggest that the two dolls were
switched. In April 2011, I found out from a former Hasbro
employee that Graphix’s instrument was a “Video
Distorter.” It seems more than a little too coincidental
that Jetta’s description in the 1987 Hasbro Toy
Fair catalog is “Jetta’s loves to zap the
color out of JEM’s music videos!” |
                      | |
                      | What
seems odd to me, Graphix was to come out in 1988 as
a graphic artist. A graphic artist is not the same as
a video production person, but much closer to it then
a sax player. I have to wonder if Graphix was planned
as the new Misfit for 1987, then Jetta came out instead.

If you look at her prototype picture, sent to
Sunbow, Graphix produced with more quality and detail
then the rest of the 1988 dolls in both make-up
and hair. This makes me think she was much farther
along in production then the rest of the 1988 dolls
shown to Sunbow. At this point, even the dolls that
where show in the Pre-Toy Fair Catalog do not not
look as produced as Graphix. Her stand is yellow, like the rest of the 1986/1987
Misfits ... Graphix did not have to be a Misfit
stand, she also could have had a Stinger stand or
could have had one of her own. Graphix's outfit has a shirt with a high collar
and matching tights, both white with a pattern,
plus a skirt. It is basically the same idea as Raya's
outfit except for Raya's jacket, belt and bow-tie.
Also the red of Graphix's skirt would be the negative
color to Raya's aque green skirt. Graphix seems
more like a nemesis to Raya then Jetta is.

photo | If it was a choose between Jetta and Graphix for the 1987
doll, maybe Hasbro was leaning more toward the Stingers.
Jetta almost seems to be a predecessor to the Stingers
... compared to the rest of the dolls. Hasbro might have
decided to release Jetta just to see how a black and white
doll -- less Outrageous -- would sell or be excepted by
                        the public.

One thing for sure Danse, Video, and Clash where worked
into the show long before Jetta and Raya. Sunbow received
information about Jetta and Raya from Hasbro at the same
time. Jetta and Raya where introduced on the show in the
                        same episode.
So, why if Jetta is not pictured on the Misfit box,
is Raya pictured on the Holograms box? And why does
Graphix seem almost produced in he prototype pictures? |
